follow up on No Name Vegemite

...we did buy some of the yet to be named Vegemite/Cheese spread....
The fact that I haven't commented on it already probably says something...lol
Tried once, it has sat in the fridge for weeks with only a fraction of its contents consumed and is destined to end up supplementing the dog's dinner one night...be interesting to see if they turn their noses up at it. . . .
I used to eat Vegemite and Cheese sandwiches as a child but obviously the taste doesn't appeal anymore as an adult.
Good luck Kraft! Perhaps someone out there likes it, but for me it's just not cricket!
Born n bred on the real stuff....and hope to die eating the real stuff!

The new Vegemite

By now everyone should have heard of the New Vegemite, the one they are releasing that has been blended with cream cheese. Hard to imagine what it will taste like as cream cheese tastes different to say cheddar which most people would have tried with vegemite on a sandwich or cracker. The benefits they say are that it will be a more 'dip' like consistency but still taste like vegemite....
And as with the original product, we the general public get to name the new product...see the vegemite website.
I will definitely be trying it and reporting back here with my verdict!

Spot the moon critters

There is a prize for the first person to spot the Moon Critter hiding in one of the craters in this photo!

I mean if they were going to hide from us they would hide on the dark side of the moon, right?

More Craters

Here is another craterised Vegemite......

..I get disappointed when we get a jar that has no craters! I wonder if the supermarket would accept craterless vegemite back for a refund?

Hmmmm.

New Vegemite Sizes

The size of Vegemite Jars has changed...
One of those tricks the marketers use to make you buy less product for more money.... Here we used to buy the BIG 910g Jar or the 455g size, which they now don't make, instead the biggest size on the shelf is now 600g for not much less cost than what the BIG jar used to be!
...and the other disappointment, not many craters!!...either we've just been unlucky so far or they just don't appear as much? I've only had one 600g jar with one crater and I didn't get a photo as I was in a rush doing the school lunches for my Potholes. (Potholes are my sons, pre-pubescent Pitts)
here is an older crater photo....

cheers, and "Happy Little Vegemites" to you all!

Vegemite Favourites

What is my favourite Vegemite concoction?
A Vegemite, Lettuce and Onion sandwich..........
How did this come about? I hear you ask!
When I was a young lad I was introduced to Vegemite and Lettuce sandwiches which I ate regularly for my school lunch...The combination of Vegemite and Lettuce on a sandwich is quite a treat with the saltiness of Vegemite and the crunch of Lettuce together making a superb gourmet lunch on a budget.
The onion version...
Once I left school and started working I would often buy my lunch, often being my favourite Vegemite and Lettuce....a lot of sandwich shops had never heard of a vegemite and lettuce sandwich and some would even ask "do you want salt on that?" (what the.!.)..every now and then I would get one that tasted a little different than normal but only in one or two of the bites...it took me a little while to figure it out... but it eventually dawned on me that the different ingredient was onion, probably inserted into my sandwich accidentally by the some onion left on the tongs used to put my Lettuce on with, after someone elses salad sanga was made..
After that I would regularly ask for the Trifecta of vegemite lettuce and onion..
.....that raised the eyebrows of a lot of sandwich artists ;-)

Craters Craters Craters

Here's a couple of jars to get started....

I can smell it now!

YUM!

Welcome to the Vegemite and the Dark Side of the Moon blog

Yeah,,, I know....I'm weird!
But hey, we are all allowed a little insanity right?
...and as Pink Floyd said...."There is no dark side of the moon really. As a matter of fact it's all dark... and the thing that makes it look alight is the sun."

So what do the craters in our Vegemite represent!

From early childhood I have been fascinated by the craters in a new Vegemite jar, (and raptured by the aroma eminating from the same!).
So here i will post all my Vegemite crater pics and my thoughts about Vegemite in general...
Please feel free to send me your own Crater photos to add to the collection.

cheers, Geoff
